Aaron Wan-Bissaka

While the majority of Manchester United fans would be happy to see Aaron Wan-Bissaka out of the team, Micah Richards believes the right-back is misplaced and misunderstood.

The former Crystal Palace full-back’s worst criticism attacks came from the club’s legends Roy Keane and Paul Scholes, who both claimed he is simply not good enough for United’s famous red shirt.

But former Manchester City defender Richards has a far more different view.

“Don’t forget Wan-Bissaka was playing in the Premier League,” he said via the Manchester Evening News.

“When you’re buying or looking at a database, you are looking at; can they pass, can they defend, can they attack, positioning and all of those things.

“Can they match the physicality? That’s a massive, massive one. If you’re playing for Pep, you’ve always go the ball – so they probably don’t.”

Richards concluded his views by suggesting that the United full-back is underrated when it comes to his one-on-one defending. In fact, playing in a back-three would be most suitable for his abilities.

“Wan-Bissaka is a very good one-on-one defender. If anything, he should be in a three at the back.

“He should be on the right of a three at the back, not at wing-back, because we know that Wan-Bissaka offensively that is not his strong point. So he’s, really, playing in a position that he’s set up to fail in a little bit.

“If you put him there as a wing-back, it’s not going to work,” the former England international concluded.

Is the United full-back getting unfair stick?

Meanwhile, Wan-Bissaka’s next opportunity to prove his quality will be in the trip to West London to battle European champions Chelsea.
