Netherlands manager Louis Van Gaal is a strong admirer of Martin Odegaard’s talent, but the Dutchman believes the Norwegian suffered a transfer mistake.
The legendary Van Gaal revealed his admiration for the 22-year-old Arsenal star after Holland beat Norway 2-0 last week.
Van Gaal was simply asked which player who he loved to have in his team from the Norwegian side.
“Odegaard is very creative and has very good passing. He can play the ball where he wants,” he said via the Mirror.
“When the player demands the ball in a good position he can give the ball. And he’s a team player. He stays a team player, that is very good.”
The Dutchman then said Odegaard could have become a better footballer had he not joined Real Madrid too early.
“It is a simple answer. Ajax would be the best education,” continued the former Manchester United boss.
“AZ is also a very nice place for young Norwegian players to go to.”
Meanwhile, Odegaard and Arsenal are now preparing to take on Newcastle United in London this weekend.
