Baghdad Bounedjah

Barcelona are interested in signing Baghdad Bounedjah from Al-Sadd, the previous club of head coach, Xavi.

The strong forward, who has 46 Algeria caps, was the top scorer in the Qatari Stars League last season under new Barcelona manager Xavi, scoring 21 goals in 19 matches while also contributing seven assists.

This season, he has continued to dazzle, scoring 11 goals in nine games to put himself in a strong position to win the Golden Boot.

Bounedjah’s excellent performance may soon be rewarded because according to Sport, Xavi is interested in bringing him to Barcelona, a European powerhouse. Following Ronald Koeman’s sacking, the former Al-Sadd manager took over at Camp Nou earlier this month.

Despite the fact that Barça’s finances are still in shambles, Xavi wants to strengthen where he can in the January transfer window.

The main source of concern is in the striking position. After being diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia, summer signing Sergio Aguero may be forced to retire, while Martin Braithwaite and Ansu Fati are now injured.

Luuk de Jong, on loan from Sevilla, has been underwhelming and could be moved back in January, while Ilias Akhomach and Abde Ezzalazouli are promising but inexperienced.

Bounedjah would provide grit and finishing ability to Barcelona’s lineup, despite having yet to play in Europe. The Algerian attacker began his career with RCG Oran before going on to USM El Harrach and Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel.

During both times, he made enough of an impression to win a move to Al-Sadd in 2015, where he has scored an amazing 128 goals in 108 league matches, making him the all-time highest scorer in the Qatar Stars League.

Bounedjah’s contract expires in two and a half years, but due to their excellent relationship with his club, Barca should still be able to secure a deal.
