Oscar Tabarez

Uruguay have parted ways with manager Oscar Tabarez after 15 years in charge of the national team.

The legendary manager had endured a difficult time with the South American team, record poor results in recent matches, including a 3-0 loss to Bolivia.

A statement released late Friday read;

“We emphatically express that this decision does not imply ignoring the importance of Tabárez’s contribution to Uruguayan soccer,” read the statement.

“We salute and acknowledge the fundamental sporting achievements obtained in these 15 years, which placed Uruguay again in the top places in world football.

“We express our respect and appreciation for professionalism and dedication during the long process of work and the immeasurable legacy.

“The AUF Executive Committee has made this difficult decision by virtue of the present circumstances, committed to the near future and obtaining the results we all expect.”

Uruguay, who are currently seventh in the table, have four matches to play in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
