Dani Alves

Dani Alves will wear jersey number 8 on his return to FC Barcelona the club has revealed.

The shirt was previously worn by Andrés Iniesta, Ludovic Giuly, Hristo Stoichkov, and Guillermo Amor with the number being the Brazilian’s fifth for the Catalans.

Alvez first joined Barca almost 15 years ago and was initially handed the #20 jersey before switching to jersey #2 which he wore for four seasons. He then switched to #22 as a tribute to his fellow fullback Eric Abidal before switching to #6 in honor of his departed teammate Xavi, who will now be his coach.

It is not the first time the player will be wearing the number 8 jersey as it is the same number he had while playing for Sevilla. It was with that club that he first gained international attention as one of the best right-backs in the world. He had previously played for Bahia in Brazil.

Alves signs in the winter transfer window after his stint in São Paulo. Before leaving for Brazil, the player had stints with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.
