Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire has explained what he was exactly up to while celebrating his goal for England against Albania last weekend.
The central defender was one of the scorers as the Three Lions pulled a 5-0 win. Maguire opened the scoresheet in the ninth minute before delivering a celebration that gestured at his critics to ‘respond.’
The celebration was followed by criticism from Harry Kane as well as Roy Keane who said it was a disgrace.
Maguire has since responded to say that the celebration was merely a knee slide that was not targeted at any individual.
“No, it wasn’t directed at no one,” Maguire said, as per the Sun.
“It was a knee slide, I obviously put my hands on my ears, but no.
“I’m Manchester United captain, of course I’m going to get criticism when the team isn’t doing well, I fully expect that.
“But of course it’s not directed at no one.”
Meanwhile, Maguire is now looking ahead to United’s trip to Watford this weekend.
