Brazil booked their place in next year’s World Cup tournament after beating Colombia 1-0 on Friday morning. 

Lucas Paqueta scored the only goal of the match in the 71st minute, which also saw the hosts secure a record 11th consecutive home win in South American qualifiers.

The win took Brazil to 34 points from 12 games, nine ahead of second-placed Argentina.

The top four teams qualify automatically for Qatar 2022 and the fifth-placed side goes into an inter-regional playoff.

In another match, Piero Hincapié scored a vital goal as third-placed Ecuador beat Venezuela 1-0.

Chile also recorded a similar win away at Paraguay, as the qualifiers pick pace.
