New FC Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandes has said he is simply nowhere near Pep Guardiola’s level.
Following his unveiling as the Catalan giants’ new head coach, Xavi will nearly find it impossible to avoid the comparisons to the great Pep Guardiola.
The former midfielder seems to have responded with views that should bury all the expectations of becoming a new Pep.
“Being compared to Guardiola is already a success, because of what he has given to football, to Barca, and because he is a reference for me,’’ Xavi said as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
“Guardiola is the best coach in the world. Any comparison now is bad for me, I understand the expectations and I know that I am in the best club and we have to demand ourselves and the rest.
The former Spain number six concluded to say being mentioned in the same sentence as Pep is actually an instant success.
“It is a success that they compare me with Guardiola and I will work so that successes are achieved,” he said.
Meanwhile, Xavi is enjoying extended training time with the Calatans before taking on Espanyol after the FIFA break.
