Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has laid down the reason why Harry Maguire should no longer captain the Red Devils.
While the club has shown glimpses of shining moments this season, shock defeats against the likes of Aston Villa, Leicester City, and Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League have invited floods of criticism.
The humiliating 5-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford then became somewhat of a breaking point as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was heavily slammed and demanded to take the walk.
Meanwhile, the club’s skipper Maguire has been questioned as the fitting captain…
“Manchester United gave Harry Maguire the captain’s armband too early,” Parker told The Sun, as per Soccer Laduma.
“It surprised a lot of people, it didn’t make any sense and it hasn’t been a good fit from day one.
“With captains, it isn’t about who has the biggest transfer fee or who’s the best player. There’s much more to it than that.
“He isn’t the right player to be a captain of Manchester United at this moment in time and he has a lot in his game that needs rectifying,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Maguire is expected to turnout for England in a 2022 World Cup Qualifier against Albania this weekend.
