Luke Shaw

England are set to be without defender Luke Shaw for their upcoming qualifiers against Albania and San Marino.

The 26-year-old was withdrawn for Alex Telles in Man United’s loss to Man City on Saturday after colliding with defender Rodri.

statement from United indicated that the left-back must pass the FA’s return to play protocols before he can link up with the England squad.

“Shaw’s head injury was managed in accordance with FA guidelines and he was removed from the field of play as soon as a concussion was suspected.

“Luke will now be monitored by club medical staff, following the FA return to play protocol, and England will be kept updated on progress,” the statement said.

Shaw has been an integral part of the Southgate team and was a cog as they managed a final place finish in the Euro 2020. In his absence, England has able replacements with Ben Chilwell, who is enjoying some superb form at club level with Chelsea, his automatic replacement.
