Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed why the club decided to spend £30million on signing Aaron Ramsdale.
Ramsdale joined Arsenal from relegated Sheffield United in the summer and the stopper has been impressive for the Gunners. And Arteta justified the club spending £30million on Ramsdale due to the goalkeeper’s ability to remain composed under pressure.
The 23-year-old had an incredible performance as the north London side beat Leicester City 2-0 last weekend.
“One of the things that I was most impressed by every time I watched a game he played in was his temperament,” said Arteta.
“I wanted to watch a lot of clips and moments after he was conceding a goal, making a mistake or sort of difficult moments. And that’s one of the big reasons why we made the decision to sign him to play with us.”
“I think yes. This character was able to do that. But at the moment we are working and it is absolutely business,” he said.
“At that point, there are no laughs and there is no room for complacency. It’s just about winning.”
The 23-year-old is now Arsenal’s first-choice goalkeeper, dislodging Bernd Leno from the spot.
