Karim Benzema grabbed a brace in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.

The Frenchman’s first goal of the clash was the club’s 1,000th goal in the Champions League/European Cup; a competition which the club has won a record 13 times.

With the striker, Madrid became the first team to hit the milestone in the Champions League with the win seeing the Carlo Ancelotti side moving top of Group D ahead of their last two games of the group.

The landmark goals in the competition for Real Madrid have come from Miguel Munoz (1) and Alfredo di Stefano (100) in the 1950s, to Guti (500) and David Beckham (600) in the 2000s, to Cristiano Ronaldo (800 and 900) more recently.
