Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has claimed Cristiano Ronaldo’s is due high appreciation after enduring heavy criticism in Italy while playing for Juventus.
Despite delivering 101 goals in 134 games in his three seasons with the Old Lady, Ronaldo was the scapegoat for Juventus’ failed UEFA Champions League efforts.
According to Evra, it was all unjustified and ridiculous.
“Cristiano needs love and respect. Instead, at Juve, he was becoming the scapegoat,” Evra told La Repubblica.
“The criticisms in Italy have been ridiculous and a bit hypocritical. [It was a] mistake when [Massimiliano] Allegri said: “Cristiano will not play all the games’. There is no need to say things in public. In any case, Cristiano’s only true love is Manchester United.”
Meanwhile, Ronaldo is expected to lead the Red Devils in the UEFA Champions League this week against Italy’s Atalanta.
