Xavi

Al Sadd have responded to claims that Xavi Hernandez is set to return to Barcelona as the head coach, insisting he is contracted to the Qatari side.

Barcelona are currently without a permanent coach following the sacking of Ronald Koeman who departed on Wednesday. The Catalans have since been linked with Xavi with the club president Joan Laporta revealing he has held talks with the former midfielder.

In a statement, Al Sadd have revealed Xavi as a contract with them and is fully focused.

“In response to what’s circulating recently, the #AlSadd management reaffirms that Xavi has a two-year contract with the club and is fully focused on the team’s upcoming matches, to maintain our lead at the top of the league and to defend the title,” a statement from the club read.

Media officer Ahmed Al Ansari later confirmed that no official offer has been made.

“Any club that has a bit of professionalism is supposed to negotiate with the other side if it wants a player or coach who is under contract,” Al Ansari wrote.

Xavi’s contract with Al Sadd is set to expire in the summer of 2023.
