Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to feel Chelsea as his team’s main rival for the Premier League title in 2021-22.
At the start of the new season, the Red Devils have earned seven points from a possible nine, with victories over Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers sandwiching a draw with Southampton.
United are considered one of the favorites to win their first Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s farewell season in 2012-13, following the signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Raphael Varane.
While Manchester City are the current Premier League winners after wresting the title from Liverpool, The Sun reports that Solskjaer sees Chelsea as their greatest Premier League rivals.
According to the source, the £97.5 million spent on Romelu Lukaku is the driving force behind Solskjaer’s decision, but the Norwegian believes that the current United crop is better than the treble-winning team of 1999.
The Red Devils are currently in third place in the Premier League’s early stages, and will face Newcastle United after the international break.
