Because of a “minor injury,” Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho will miss England’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Poland.

The 21-year-old was injured in training earlier this week and did not play in the win over Hungary on Thursday.

Gareth Southgate will now have a 23-man squad as he returns to his club.

A statement from England said Sancho was “expected to recover in time” to play for Manchester United against Newcastle on Saturday, 11 September.

Since joining Manchester United for £73 million from German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in the summer, Sancho has appeared in three Premier League matches for the Red Devils.

Before the international break, he got his first start in a 1-0 win over Wolves.

In 22 appearances for England, the former Manchester City youth player has three goals.
