Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe is set to play for Real Madrid at some time in his career, according to Karim Benzema.

Los Blancos were set to spend £197 million for the 22-year-old on deadline day, but the La Liga giants eventually backed out after PSG did not answer to their offer.

Mbappe, who is in the final year of his contract, is still interested in joining Real Madrid and will try to reach an agreement with Carlo Ancelotti’s side in January.

Benzema believes it will only be a matter of time before Mbappe joins him in the Spanish city after starting beside him in France’s 1-1 draw with Ukraine on Wednesday night.

“He is a player who one day or another will play for Real Madrid. We get on very well and I would like him to already be with me in Madrid,” Benzema told RTL.

“I don’t know what will happen [with his future], but Mbappe would be welcome at Real Madrid. He is a player who has all the qualities to be a Real Madrid player in the future.”

Mbappe has had a strong start to the new season with PSG, scoring three goals in his first four Ligue 1 appearances, including a brace last weekend against Reims.
