Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blocked a late move from Everton for Donny van de Beek.

Last week at his press conference the manager spoke about how Van de Beek can adapt to play in a number of different positions to best suit the needs of his team this season but it emerged that the player had been tempted by a late approach from Everton.

The former Ajax midfielder has not been able to cement a place in Solskjaer’s first team since joining the club last summer with loan deals having been mooted before.

The player however is adamant that he wants to fight for a place in the team despite his national team manager Louis van Gaal indicating that he won’t pick him if he can’t get the required games at club level.

According to Dutch outlet AD, Solskjaer intervened to block a loan move for Van de Beek to join Everton with the Norwegian set to hand the player his opportunities this season hoping that he takes them.

Apart from Everton, the player who has been dropped from the Netherlands latest squad, had been linked with a loan move to Inter Milan at the start of the year but that too was rejected by United.
