Unai Emery

Villarreal have replaced Javi Calleja with Unai Emery and the former PSG and Arsenal coach arrives at the Estadio de la Ceramica with a lot of ambition.

Emery addressed the media on Monday and spoke of his desire to win silverware during his three-year contract.

“By returning to Spain after my experiences abroad, I fell like I’m home,” he said at his introductory press conference.

“I’m motivated because of the challenges and ambition at Villarreal.

“I’ve always admired this club.

“Since this president arrived, this has been a stable project for 23 years.

“This club has achieved important things by reaching Europa League and Champions League semi-finals.

“Dreams are free and I dream of winning a title here at Villarreal.

“We need to enjoy the process and the journey.

“Here, they’ve enjoyed the journey even if the title hasn’t arrived yet.”

Emery has won the Europa League three times and he was asked about that competition, which Villarreal will return to in 2020/21.

“The Europa League has grown a lot and it provides prestige,” Emery said.

“But I also want to play in the Champions League.

“In any case, I want to enjoy the process.”
