Chelsea identifies Declan Rice alternative

Chelsea have reportedly turned to José María Giménez to strengthen Lampard’s squad, although Atletico Madrid will not let him out so easily.

Gimenez has been the latest to be linked with Chelsea and the Telegraph reports that the London club wants the Uruguayan centre-back to lead their defence next season.

Giménez, who has a contract until June 2024 with Atlético, is an essential piece of Simeone’s plans.

Therefore, it seems difficult to think that Spanish would let him leave. Only a large offer from Chelsea, who is one of the few teams able to make these kinds of offers during the pandemic, would mean a departure for the player.

The Uruguayan is the next objective of the Lampard’s after having practically given up on Declan Rice.

West Ham have closed in on him and will not let the England midfielder out for the time being.

Gimenez is also in the sights of Manchester City, who have other options that are cheaper at first glance.
