Thiago Alcantara

Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara wants to leave the German champions, club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed.

Alcantara has a year left on his current contract but has reportedly stalled on extending his stay, forcing the club to consider cashing in or risk losing him on a free next summer.

He has been linked with a move to new Premier League champions Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp a huge admirer.

“[Bayern sporting director] Hasan [Salihamidzic] had talks with Thiago,” Rummenigge told reporters during Leroy Sane’s official unveiling on Thursday.

“Curiously they were always very positive. But he told Hasan some time ago that he wants to do something new to finish his career.

He however added that no club has contacted them over a possible deal despite the links with Liverpool.

“So far no club has contacted us. We don’t know if he’s settled things with a new club.”

Despite their interest in the former Barcelona midfielder, Liverpool have to create some space in midfield, which currently has the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, and Naby Keita, who all played a key role as the Reds marched to the Premier League title.
