France coach Didier Deschamps has backed Antonine Griezmann despite having a slow start to life at FC Barcelona.
Griezmann who is currently out with an injury has seldom been used by Barcelona this season with rumours rife that he wasn’t enjoying his time at the club but in an interview with RTL via Mundo Deportivo, Deschamps backed the attacker to succeed in his club as his quality was undisputed.
“I don’t know the club from the inside. However, I have not the slightest doubt about the fact that Griezmann is capable of succeeding or helping his team-mates. It doesn’t really worry me. Antoine’s quality is undisputed.
“He has the footballing and mental quality for it. He just had a bad time, like others,” Deschamps said.
The France national team coach, however, agreed that the player has had a difficult start to his life at Barcelona but backed the player’s mentality to help him deal with the form.
“It’s his debut season. All players have a period in their career where things are perhaps a little bit more difficult. Griezmann has the mentality to deal with it,” added Deschamps.
The player won’t be part of the Barcelona team in their two games in Laliga and it is still unclear if he will be available for the club’s return leg against Napoli in the Champions League.
