German Football Association (DFB) has confirmed that the Bundesliga will return in mid-September for the start of the 2020/21 season.
Calendars across top leagues in Europe have been altered due to the break brought about by coronavirus in the past months with Bundesliga having been the first major league to return; the league ending early in July.
Now the DFB confirmed that football for the new season will be back on September 11 with the first round of the DFB Pokal, which will take place across four days.
A week later (September 18-21), the Bundesliga and both the second and third divisions will return to action to kickstart their campaigns.
The calendar year concludes on December 22-23 with the second round of the DFB Pokal, with the final league match days taking place the weekend before.
The breaks mean that the winter break has been shortened as the top two tiers action will resume on January 14. The DFB Pokal final will take place on Thursday, May 13 next year and will not take place after the conclusion of league football.
The Bundesliga season will end on Saturday, May 22, with relegation matches scheduled for May 26 and May 29.
