Five members of French side St Etienne, three of them players, have tested positive for COVID-19.
In a statement, Saint-Etienne explained that “the tests revealed five positive cases, three of those are part of the first team”. The club added that 33 players and 21 members of the technical staff were tested on Wednesday and on Thursday 38 administrative workers were tested.
Those who have tested positive will quarantine at home and be observed by the club’s medical staff. They said that the players got the virus during the lockdown so there was no contact between them.
The statement added that the professional squad will return to training on Friday.
The French League (LFP) decided to terminate the league season due to the pandemic and Saint-Etienne finished in 17th place.
The team will face PSG in the French Cup final at the end of July or early August when football returns in France.
